Department of Hematology

The Hematology Department deals with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the hematopoietic system, including chemotherapy for blood and lymphatic cancers. Highly specialized diagnostics, including genetic, molecular and flow cytometry tests, is carried out in cooperation with the clinical Department of Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation in Katowice.

The department has 20 beds in single and double rooms, including 2 separate rooms with sanitary facilities, as well as 3 daily chemotherapy stations. The Department employs 8 doctors, including 4 hematologists – specialists in internal diseases, as well as 14 nurses, including 4 specialists.

The Department carries out NHF drug programs.

The opening of the Hematology Clinic is planned for January 2022. Outpatient drug programs of the National Health Fund are already being implemented.

The department is accredited for specialization training in hematology and for internships in this field.

The diseases the Department has the most experience in treating include: lymphomas, multiple myeloma, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, myelodysplastic syndromes, myeloproliferative neoplasms (polycythemia vera, essential thrombocythemia and myelofibrosis), as well as anemia and thrombocytopenia of various backgrounds.
